The History of Able Lives
Able Lives, a ten-part television documentary series that explores the lives of people living with disabilities was inspired by a 2004 CTCDD project to promote fully inclusive communities.
In 2004 the CTCDD awarded CPTV with a grant to produce television vignettes that raised awareness about Connecticut’s Birth to Three program and the importance of Inclusive Education.
These vignettes became the inspiration for the Able Lives television series. Able Lives was produced in partnership with CPTV, CTCDD and the Connecticut Department of Mental Retardation, in association with the State Department of Education, the Bureau of Rehabilitation Services and the Board of Education and Services for the Blind. Additional funding was provided by the Corporation for Independent Living, NewAlliance Foundation and The William Caspar Graustein Memorial Fund.
