Roy Ip was born in Hong Kong, trained at the French Culinary Institute in Manhattan and has owned Le Petit Café in Branford for eight years. He is genial, effervescent and amusingly sharp when it suits him. But above all, he is inordinately talented, producing a cuisine that springs from a tradition of simple, unfussy French bistro cooking; his honest food is a joy to discover in an era that sometimes appears to measure the success of a dish by the number of ingredients.
